Hello! I am Mrs. Styron. I teach K-5 General Music at Eastside Elementary and also 4th/5th
Chorus after-school! I am SO excited to be teaching our AWESOME Eastside students and look
forward to meeting our Eastside parents! We can't wait to make this a “musical year” full of
much success, learning and fun!
EDUCATION: I received a Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of Iowa in Iowa
City, Iowa. My major was voice and education and my minor was in classical organ. I have
taken numerous continuing education classes from other universities like: IU (Bloomington, In.),
Berklee School of Music (Boston, Ma.), and the University of South Dakota.

A LITTLE ABOUT ME...
I just moved to Douglasville this summer after marrying my soul-mate, whom is also a lead guitar
player! We love making music together. Together we have 4 adult children. Two of them are
married. They all are very musical!
I am a multi-genre singer/songwriter, arranger and music producer. Instruments I am proficient
on include: Voice, Piano, Guitar, Organ, Ukulele, Recorder, Electric Bass and Drums.
I have written 100's of songs (all genres). I am currently getting my songs ready to pitch to film
and Country, Christian, Rock and Pop artists. I love teaching students composition and
songwriting!
My love of writing original music expands beyond home and into my teaching at school. I have
written numerous original musicals for both Elementary and Middle Schools with and without
students. It is so fun to see students share in the creative writing of a musical story and also
participate in helping write the lyrics and music, too! This combination makes for a fantastic
musical show with talent and ownership coming from the students, staff and sometimes our
helpful parents! :)

WHAT STUDENTS ARE LEARNING IN GENERAL MUSIC CLASS...
Students in our regular General Music Classes are learning to read music in Music class.
Statistics show that students who can read music score considerably above students who can't
read music when it comes to test scores and learning in Math, Language Arts, Science and Social
Studies! Music is one of the only subjects that uses both sides of the brain at the same time!
When that occurs, there is much growth in the brain!
Our first unit concentrates on Rhythm!
Students also learn the note values along with many musical elements such as: Sound (overtone,
timbre, pitch, duration), tempo, melody, harmony, rhythm, texture, structure (form), dynamics
and expression.

THE SOUND OF MUSIC!
AT Eastside Elementary School, we are in the process of building our “MUSICAL
INSTRUMENT” supply- we really like to call it our “MUSICAL EMPIRE”! We want an
instrument in the hand of every student who comes into the Music classroom! Students will
learn life-long skills playing the various instruments and also learn to read music faster when
applying the musical knowledge in a “hands-on” experience!

Because of a generous and wonderful donation, we are currently ordering 3 acoustic guitars (full-
size), an electric guitar, keyboards, an electric bass guitar and a full-size drum set for students to
learn on! We currently have ukuleles and recorders. Soon, we will be reaching out to the
community, businesses and corporations in a quest through www.donnerschoose.org to get even
more guitars, keyboards and even a full PA System with microphones and stands for the Music
Performance Station which will be located in the Music room. Students eventually will be able to
practice in the Performance Station once they have become proficient on 3-4 chords. One of my
slogans is, “We practice how we perform!” When we hit the stage, we'll be ready!!! I hope all of
you will be there to cheer us on!
FOR THE 4TH/5TH GRADERS WHO LIKE TO SING AND PERFORM, WE OFFER CHORUS!
The 4th/5th grade Chorus will meet every Tuesday until 4:00 p.m. (with the exception of District vacation days, etc.) Students who participate must be enrolled in the ASP after-school program or part of the 21st Century Program. At 4:00 p.m., I will walk the students to their after-school programs & then leave. We look forward to the 4th/5th Choir representing us with GREATNESS and superior talent as we perform for our special school events and concerts and serve the community!
